The basics shown here are traditional Isshinryu karate. The basics in Chart I are demonstrated from the right side only, but should be practiced equally on each side. The basics in Chart II that are noted with an (*) are not required for promotion. They have been integrated into the warm-up or are used as training drills in class. The abbreviations for Chart I are as follows:
